About Healthy Kids: The Health Insurance Programs
These public and private insurance programs are the platform for providing affordable health coverage for low-income, uninsured children in Sonoma County.
- Medi-Cal - a public insurance program providing coverage to low-income families at or below 200% of Federal Poverty Level (FPL).
- Healthy Families – a public insurance program covering children at or below 250% of FPL, who are not eligible for Medi-Cal.
- CaliforniaKids (CalKids) – a private health insurance program providing outpatient coverage only for children under 250% of FPL who do not quality for MediCal or Healthy Families due to immigration status.
- Partnership HealthPlan – an initiative-sponsored product for children not eligible for any of the above programs.
- Kaiser Child Health Plan – a private health plan sponsored by Kaiser-Permanente, providing coverage to children at or below 300% of FPL.
Parents call a centralized information and referral line, where Certified Application Assistors (CAAs) help link families with one or more of these programs, based on the child's age and the family's preference.
